Articles: Intellegent Church in the 21st Century

Church Life

"Albert Einstein once commented that the kind of thinking that will solve the world's problems will be of a different order to the kind of thinking that created those problems in the first place'.  At the beginning of the third millennium the church in the West needs a different order of thinking.  Our task must be to consider what we believe to be the non-negotiables of our faith, and in the light of this understanding of God's mission and purpose for his people, reimagine our purpose and mission, allowing them to shape the way we do church for the twenty first century."

"the non negotiables of faith".....................not the ways we do church...........

This is taken from the intro to a new book from Faithworks, Steve Chalke explores how we can be church in the 21st century, on a journey toward a community that is inclusive, messy, honest, purposeful, generous, vulnerable, sustainable and diverse.

The book seeks to reclaim the true heartbeat of the church; the passion to save not itself, but the world. In a work that is rooted in deep theology while being highly practical, Steve Chalke outlines a church whose mission and outlook is fully rooted in its understanding of a loving, welcoming God. A church that is inclusive, welcoming all people. A church that is purposeful, marked by a mission to equip its members in their frontline work. A church that is generous and sustainable.

What we need today is an intelligent church, not cerebral or intellectual, but rather a joined up and authentic church that makes sense of both the Bible and of life.
