Articles: Tuesday Night Home Group Profile

Monday, February 14, 2005 - 06:36 PM, (520 Reads)

Church Life
Following on from the Big Front Door, Big Back Door Article.  As promised here is the profile of what the P.Mers is all about.  All names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Home group Profile:

Who: Tues’ P.M.ers - A home group for those who have done home groups before and found that they fancy a change in format or those brave enough to join in the race.

What: A very open minded and flexible group who have bought into the idea that “the meat is on the streetâ€? and that we must be culturally relevant to meet and reach those who are not actually searching for nor interested “the meaning of lifeâ€?.

Why: We want to Love, Live and Learn to impact our communities in the manner and footsteps of Jesus. We want to be natural, working with the help of the supernatural. As a group we looked at the concept of Post Modernism, Relativism and the Emergent Church. We didn’t really like what we found out i.e. it’s a really scary time to be living in, but the potential of reaching out to pre Christians is equally exciting and so easy.

When: Tuesday Evenings, 8 pm (ish)

Where: Currently at Theo’s house. Falcon Rd, Deepdale., and in the pubs and at the cinema and in lots of different places.

Favourite book in The Book:

Mark.

Why? It’s the shortest of the Gospels. No not really, we see it as a call to arms, a call to servanthood and that’s what we aspire to do. We want to be servant leaders.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Mark 10:45- NKJV

OR:

41When the other ten heard of this conversation, they lost their tempers with James and John. 42Jesus got them together to settle things down. "You've observed how godless rulers throw their weight around," he said, "and when people get a little power how quickly it goes to their heads. 43It's not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. 44Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. 45That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not to be served--and then to give away his life in exchange for many who are held hostage."

Mark 10. The Message

We not bothered about glory, we’re not interested in being the best, we are aware that we are all broken leaders and we don’t mind messing up in the process of guiding folk towards God in Jesus name.

Catch Phrase (s) :

It’s not a case of Come and See, it’s Go and Be!

Church is not a spectator sport

It’s not What Would Jesus Do, it’s What Did Jesus DO

Quotes:

If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing wrong.

Steve Sjogren (author of Servant Evangelism)

Trying is the first step to failure.

– Homer (Simpson)

Favourite Web Site: www.damaris.org . Helps us get equipped.

Mission / Vision Statement: We aim to be as culturally relevant as is possible by involving ourselves in the lives of pre Christians both corporately and as individuals. In Going and Being, attended and assisted by the Holy Spirit, we hope to infiltrate society by not wearing our Christian hats but by the same token not being afraid to blow our cover as being a Christian.Ideally we would like to be the un believers Christian representative. In doing so it is our prayer that The Spirit will move and lives will be saved for the good of the Kingdom. We appreciate that this process could take us years.

Plan:

It is our sincere desire to set up simple projects to reach out and serve the community in realistic and practical ways. To do this we need to ask the question, what do people want. To get the answer to that question we need look no further than the media, TV, movies, books, magazines, fashions. We need to be among people. We need to be part of the world they live in not cocooned in a safe exclusive churchy environment. We are committed to stepping out of our comfort zones and into the great unknown in a manner that is non threatening to us as followers of Jesus and to the people we encounter.

We plan to perform random acts of kindness with no strings attached and will continue to love people until they ask why.

Our most recent project has been to set up an acoustic band that will play quality cover versions of great songs with no hidden message or agenda in the pubs and clubs around Preston. Why? Because we can and it will be fun. You are invited to join us at these gigs but only if you bring a pre Christian friend.

Group Leader(s):

Currently directed by Ray, but led by all.
