Since the Preston Mind Zone (PMZ) website launched in February of 2005 it has had in the region of 1,000 views per day with many people registering to use the website’s resources and countless more people sharing their personal success stories either o­nline or through the PMZ office.  Preston Mind Zone is a portal through which people can access information and advice o­n mental health issues from responsible bodies and qualified professionals. Friday night's ITV news broadcast on the conviction of John Barrett for manslaughter threatens to jeopardise years of successful anti-stigma work. Describing Barrett as a 'Paranoid Schizophrenic', the broadcast sought only to instill fear, create panic and increase discrimination. This was not balanced reporting. Read more...

Terry Williams has produced a 14 Point Action Plan for combatting stigma of mental health in the media. Terry, who provides media relations advice to the Lancashire Stigma Partnership has a wealth of experience of working with the media. The 14 Point Plan gives local people the tools they need to work alongside the media in addressing stigma and promoting more positive images of people with mental health problems. Read more...
